Trouble brews in Bright Tree Village as the General Koyatta and his band of mercenaries show up and test the Ewok’s resolve to outsiders in this entry into the series.
Story: A Solid Follow-up To Issue #1
In Star Wars: Ewoks #2 (of 4), the story picks up as General Koyatta and his band of mercenaries arrive at Bright Tree Village, initially appearing peaceful. However, tensions quickly rise when they begin mocking the Ewoks’ beliefs, leading to heated arguments. The conflict escalates when the chief’s daughter, known as the Red Ghost, leaps from the trees to attack the outsiders. Despite her bravery, the mercenaries’ superior weaponry swiftly turns the tide, even with Meedro and Wicket joining the fight. Ultimately, the battle ends with the mercenaries showing restraint – on the condition that the Ewoks hand over a hostage to guide them through the forest, setting up the events of issue #3.
As a continuation from issue #1, this addition delivers a solid progression of the story. It showcases the Ewoks’ resilience and determination, reinforcing why they’re such beloved characters. However, their courage comes at a cost, as they must sacrifice one of their own to protect the village. While this issue adds meaningful depth to the overarching narrative, I do wish we had seen the Ewoks engage in more combat before their inevitable surrender.
Art: A Solid Entry To The Series
The artwork in Star Wars: Ewoks #2 is a strong continuation of the first issue, maintaining the rich, immersive visuals that bring Endor’s Forest Moon to life. The lush greens and deep earthy browns of the environment perfectly capture the Ewoks’ home, making each panel feel vibrant and alive. The bright, striking colors of the blaster bolts contrast beautifully against the natural backdrop, adding dynamic energy to the action. The attention to detail in the Ewoks’ fur, expressions, and attire further enhances the storytelling, making them feel distinct and full of personality. The artwork remains one of the best assets of this comic series.
Verdict: A Solid Issue
Star Wars: Ewoks #2 stays true to the tone set by the first issue, maintaining consistency in its storytelling. The Ewoks’ charm remains intact, and the narrative has progressed in an engaging way so far. However, compared to its predecessor, this issue feels slightly less exciting. While it still contributes meaningfully to the series, the lack of overall action or surprises makes it less compelling than issue #1. As a result, I’d rate this installment a bit lower, though it remains a solid continuation of the story.
