The Star Wars franchise is slated for a big 2025, in comparison to 2024, with an array of new content spanning books, TV shows, and a video game remaster sure to bring back that late 90s video game vibe. Star Wars fans have plenty to look forward to, with stories that expand the lore and provide new adventures for beloved and new characters alike. I believe 2025 is going to bring excitement to Star Wars as we move towards the first feature release since 2019 with the release of The Mandalorian and Grogu in 2026. Take a look at the most anticipated Star Wars releases of the year.
Star Wars TV Shows in 2025
The small screen still remains a major avenue for Star Wars storytelling in 2025. From the spark of the rebellion in Andor to the critically acclaimed animated anthology series in Visions, Disney+ continues to be the only place to find new Star Wars content in the form of motion picture:
"Star Wars: Andor" Season 2 (April 22, 2025): Cassian Andor’s journey continues with the highly anticipated release of Andor Season 2. As one of the few Disney-era Star Wars productions that has garnered widespread acclaim from fans, Andor captivated audiences in its first season with storytelling and compelling character development. Season 2 carries the weight of high expectations, and I hope the writers and directors can maintain the same rhythm, depth, and emotional intensity that made the first season such a standout from the other series.
"Star Wars: Visions" Volume 3: Yet to receive a release date, the animated anthology series returns to Disney+. Featuring stories from some of the best animation studios around the globe, I am sure volume 3 will feature bold storytelling, innovative art styles, and unique interpretations of Star Wars lore like the previous 2 volumes. Visions has been one of the most refreshing series in the Disney-era because we get to see a multitude of stories viewed from the lens of some of the best artists and animators in the world.
"Star Wars: Skeleton Crew": I almost didn't include Skeleton Crew in the list because it debuted in 2024, but season 1 (and possibly the series) ends next week and I simply love this show. The character development of the kids and Jude Law have been a joy to watch. If you haven't had a chance to sit down and watch it yet then clear your calendar and do yourself a favor.
Additionally, rumors suggest the development of a new Star Wars series set in the Old Republic era. Though not officially confirmed, this potential project has generated considerable buzz among fans, especially those eager to see this legendary time period brought to life on screen. And yes, I am one of those fans that are foaming at the mouth to get an Old Republic-era anything. The Old Republic’s rich history should offer endless possibilities for epic tales across the Jedi, Sith, and the galaxy. I would pay close attention to the news as we get closer to Star Wars for more information on upcoming series.
Star Wars Books and Comics in 2025
2025 is going to be packed with Star Wars novels and comics that are guaranteed to keep you flipping pages late into the night. Whether you're a fan of the sprawling High Republic saga or eager to dive into fresh stories that connect with upcoming TV shows, this year's lineup offers something special for everyone.
"Star Wars Life Size" (June 10, 2025): I know you may think that reference books are boring, but this isn’t just any reference book—it’s a deep dive into the iconic visuals and cultural legacy of Star Wars, featuring life-sized depictions of characters and elements from the Star Wars universe. I think it is going to be perfect for fans who want to feel like they’re standing face-to-face with their favorite heroes or know how big Yoda's lightsaber really is.
"The High Republic: Trials of the Jedi" by Charles Soule (June 17, 2025): The real highlight of the year for Star Wars book is the final installment of the High Republic initiative. The High Republic has been a monumental era in Star Wars storytelling, offering a glimpse into the golden age of the Jedi long before the Skywalker saga. Over the past few years, it has taken Star Wars' lore to an unexplored era. I know some of the books have been met with criticism, but overall I think the High Republic initiative has been successful in bringing unforgettable characters and gripping stories to the Star Wars universe. The end of the series is definitely going to be bittersweet.
"Star Wars: The Acolyte – Wayseeker" by Justina Ireland (May 6, 2025): Exploring the shared history of Vernestra and Indara, this novel ties into the Acolyte TV series that released in 2024.
The High Republic: Into the Light by Claudia Gray (April 1, 2025): The entry into the High Republic series will feature the beginning of the end as you take a journey with the Jedi fighting off the Nameless and the Nihil.
Marvel's Star Wars by Alex Segura and Phil Noto (May 7, 2025): Marvel's Star Wars comic relaunches this May with thrilling new stories set after Return of the Jedi! Follow iconic heroes in the dawn of the New Republic era. If you are a comic reader this should be a must.
Star Wars: Hyperspace Stories - The Bad Batch - Ghost Agents by Michael Moreci, Valeria “Lux” Favoccia, Reese Hannigan, Elisabetta D'Amico, Michael Atiyeh, Comicraft (February 12, 2025): The Bad Batch returns in the form of a new comic series by Dark Horse Comics. Known for delivering some of the best comics on the market today, Dark Horse, surely will do a great job delivering a great story. Plus, I heard we will be getting an Asajj Ventress cameo!
Star Wars: Legacy of Vader by Charles Soule and Luke Ross (February 5, 2025): “Star Wars: Legacy of Vader #1” marks the beginning of Kylo Ren’s journey as he steps into his role as Supreme Leader following the events of “The Last Jedi.”
Star Wars: A New Legacy by Charles Soule, Jason Aaron, and Kieron Gillen (February 4, 2025): Marvel and Star Wars have once again delivered a one-off series with Star Wars: A New Legacy, a comic that celebrates ten years of Marvel’s Star Wars storytelling.
These books don’t just expand the Star Wars universe—they’re building bridges between different eras and stories, offering fans a richer, more intertwined Star Wars experience. In the forums, I've seen people speculating that the next writing initiative could be centered around the Sith given the increasing number of mentions in recent years, but there has been zero confirmations on what is next. Personally, I would love to see more Sith centric content entered in Disney-era canon given that my some of my favorite Legends books are Darth Plagueis, The Darth Bane Trilogy, and The Old Republic - Revan. Of course, these aren't the only books or comics coming out this year, but these are the ones I wanted to highlight.
Star Wars Games in 2025
Star Wars gaming in 2025 is going to be a mixed bag. There aren't any large titles slated to be released, but we do get a mix of nostalgia and a PC port of the mobile game, Star Wars: Hunters
"Star Wars Episode I: Jedi Power Battles" (January 23, 2025): How about a blast from the past—literally. The remastered edition of Jedi Power Battles is dropping this January. I don't remember playing this game growing up, so I might pick up a copy and give it a try. Who knows, you may see a blog post on here about it.
Star Wars: Hunters (January 27, 2025): Hunters received mixed reviews when it first launched, but maybe a PC port will help boost the Hunters community.
Other than those two games, we have nothing confirmed for 2025. We may get trailers of upcoming titles, but I wouldn't count on that until at least around Star Wars day. If you want to read more GameRant has a great article.
Star Wars Movies in 2025
Unfortunately, we are not receiving any feature length films in 2025. However, there are plenty of rumors swirling around about different projects. Recently James Mangold dropped some information about his Star Wars project, and with his Bob Dylan biopic releasing we may be getting his movie sooner rather than later. For now, we will have to wait until 2026 to grab popcorn and Coke to watch Star Wars in theaters with The Mandalorian and Grogu.
Conclusion
2025 is shaping up to be an unforgettable year for Star Wars fans. From gripping novels/comics and thrilling TV series, there’s something for everyone to enjoy. Whether you’re drawn to the High Republic’s golden age, the start of rebellion, or the remastered adventures of Jedi Power Battles, 2025 should have most thing you are looking for as a Star Wars fan.
